I picked up the kids at Dallas Love Field at 5:00 and our flight was scheduled to leave at 8:00. We played some UNO and after being informed by the kids that they hadn't eaten anything yet, we got a little bit to eat before our flight. We got back to our gate only to find out that our plane was being delayed and that our new departure time was 8:30.
We took off at 8:30 and arrived at our first stop in San Antonio. We were supposed to be there for 30 minutes - just long enough to let a few people off and have a few people get on - before continuing on to Vegas. After those deplaning in San Antonio got off the plane, a flight attendant got on the PA and told us that our flight had been delayed for 2 1/2 hours and that we were all going to have to get off the plane and wait in the terminal. So I woke up Trey and Shelby to tell them that we had to get off the plane. I tried to wake up Lizi but she was completely out of it. So I carried her out and Shelby helped wheel her bag off the plane. Trey and Shelby played UNO for a while while I held Lizi, who was still out, in my arms.
I eventually spread out Trey's jacket on the floor and laid Lizi down on it and started playing UNO with Shelby and Trey. Lizi woke up about 30 minutes before our flight was supposed to leave and we boarded the plane, took off, and finally made it to Vegas.
Lizi was awake, but quiet, for most of the car ride home, while Shelby and Trey slept. We made it home at about 4:50am.
Quote of the day:
Lizi, While playing UNO at the airport: "Oh darn busters!"
Saturday, November 23
Trey came in at 8:10am after only 3 hours of sleep in his bed, to wake me up. I think he was excited to open a present that Jenna got him, and to play with all of his toys. When I got to his room, Jenna was in there with all the kids and they had just opened her presents. Trey then asked me to play foosball with him so we played a game while Shelby and Lizi found their polly pockets and began to play with them.
We then had breakfast and I put on The Rescuers for them to watch while I took a shower and got ready for the day. After the movie, Trey and Jenna played a game on the computer that Trey plays in Texas, and we all played Sorry! and then had some grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup for lunch.
After lunch Jenna and I preformed the same "Special Room" (as Jenna calls it) that we preformed for Liz on her birthday - a karaoke, choreographed song/dance to "Bird and the Worm" by Owl City. After that, we played Scene it, Disney. Lizi and Shelby colored while Trey, Jenna and I played golf. Then we went outside to trim the bushes to get them ready for Christmas lights. After we worked on the bushes, we had some hot chocolate that Liz made and then went to the sand box. When I asked what the kids were making, they said, "our hike down to the river." Shelby then rode her bike for a little while and Trey, Jenna and I played catch with the football. Lizi stayed inside playing with her polly pockets. I then gave the kids baths and we had chicken noodle soup for dinner, watched The Aristocats and went to bed.
Sunday, November 24
I heard the kids playing in their room this morning, trying to be as quiet as possible but not really succeeding at it. So at about 8:00 I went in and found Trey and Lizi whispering to each other as Trey was setting up the bowling pins for Lizi to knock over. I watched them take turns for a little while before Shelby came in. Trey then got his football helmets out and started looking at them while Shelby played with animals and Lizi with her princesses.
We then went in to the kitchen to have some pancakes and eggs for breakfast and then we all got ready for church. Before we left, Trey, Shelby and Lizi played UNO in the living room. It was cute to walk out there to the living room after I had gotten ready and to see the three kids playing UNO all by themselves. They play so well together.
After we got home from church, Trey, Jenna, and I went to the batting cages to work on Trey's batting. After we worked on batting for a while, we played catch. It is amazing how much better he has gotten at catching since the summer time. After playing a little catch we headed home for lunch.
We had some pizza and chicken nuggets at the kids request for lunch/dinner. After we ate we got all bundled up and went out side to put some Christmas lights up. All the kids helped and had so much fun. We came inside because it got very cold outside. Trey wanted to play UNO with me, so we played, then Jenna and Lizi came over to join us while Shelby played with her polly pockets.
After UNO, Trey wanted to play Settlers so we started to get it out and then Shelby saw Scene It: Disney and the kids decided that they wanted to play it instead. All the kids combined their Disney knowledge and beat me. After the game, I put the football game on and Trey got his football helmets out and we watched a little while Shelby and Lizi played with their polly pockets in the living room. I then had the kids get ready for bed and tucked them in.
Quote of the day:
Monday, November 25
I woke early to go to work and before I left I went to check on the kids. Trey was just getting his Disneyland necklace off his bed post and bringing it back into bed to look at. I went in and we talked for a couple minutes before I went to work.
After I left, the kids played with their toys in their bedroom and then got all bundled up to play in the sand box outside. After just a few minutes they decided that it was too cold so they came inside and watched Little Mermaid II while Liz took a shower. Trey then wanted to go outside and hit golf balls - and wanted Liz to take pictures of him hitting them - while the girls played dress up, with the doll house, and colored.
They came in and had cereal for breakfast. After breakfast, the girls played dress up again and Trey played Star Wars on the Wii. Shelby then wrote a letter to Ariel, Lizi played polly pockets and Trey played with his lightsabers. Liz, Shelby, and Lizi played UNO while Trey kept playing with the lightsabers and with Smokey.
The kids then had macaroni and cheese for lunch and then the kids watched Toy Story. After the movie, Shelby, Trey, Lizi and Liz played UNO. Shelby and Lizi then turned on some music and started dancing while Trey played with Chewy. Then everybody played hide and go seek. Lizi would hide next to the toilet and close her eyes with her head down and hope no body saw her. After hide and go seek, the kids played with melty beads. A little while later, Trey got a couple of his stuffed animals and sat down and played UNO with his stuffed animals. Jenna and Trey then played Scene it: Disney. Shelby came over a little here and there to play too.
They all went outside to ride tricycles and that's when I got home. It was fun to see the smiles on their faces when I pulled in the driveway. Right when I got home, Liz, Jenna, Shelby, Trey, Lizi, and I went to the batting cages so I could work on hitting with Trey. Shelby and Jenna wanted to bat too so I pitched a few to them as well. After batting practice, we went to the football field and played football. Shelby and Trey had a race around the track, as well, as Lizi stood at the finish line waving her arms.
We came home, had left overs for dinner and watched Star Wars. During the movie the kids had a webchat for 22 minutes with their mom. After the movie, we got ready for bed.
Quote of the day: While playing hide and go seek when it was Lizi's turn to count she said, "Okay guys...I'll give you 20 minutes!" Then she counted to 20.
Tuesday, November 26
I woke up to go to work and Shelby and Trey got up to eat breakfast with me. After I left, Lizi got up and joined the kids at the table. Shelby and Lizi started coloring and Jenna and Trey played "Go Fish." Soon Shelby and Lizi joined the "Go Fish" game. Liz put on a Jake and the Neverland Pirates for them to watch and then everyone got dressed and went to St George for Liz's doctor's appointment. At the doctor's, the kids played go fish while they were waiting.
After the doctor's, Liz brought the kids to Dick's to see me at work. The kids had fun on the putting green for about 20 minutes. After visiting me, Liz took the kids to feed the ducks, go to McDonalds to eat some lunch, and went to the fish store to buy Trey a fish since his last one died. He ended up getting an allergy eater as he calls it (algae eater). They happened to be driving by my work as I was getting off work so I drove them home.
Right after getting home, I took Trey to the batting cage where I pitched to him for about 30 minutes. Trey hit the ball much better today than the first day he was here and a little better than yesterday. We came home and Shelby was in the bath tub and Lizi was looking at the new fish in the fish tank, just having taken a bath. Shelby, Trey, Jenna and I went outside to put up more Christmas lights.
After putting up a few more strands of lights, we came in and had a chicken and rice casserole for dinner. We then watched Jungle Book, and went to bed.
Quote of the day - Shelby: Smokey loves me! But he claws me (when he is sitting on her lap while she pets him), and that's against my rules!
Wednesday, November 27
I woke up and went to check on the kids. They were all awake, Shelby and Lizi sorting kitchen food and Trey playing with his cars. I started playing cars with Trey and we got the mat's out and set them up in the entry way. Soon, all the kids were out playing cars and animals on the mat. After playing, we had cereal for breakfast and then went to play out in the sand box. We then went out front and rode bikes and put up more Christmas Lights. I then took Trey to the batting cage while Shelby, Lizi and Jenna continued to play out in the sand box.
When Trey and I got home, I warmed up some left overs and made some sandwiches for lunch. Then I left for work. The kids all waved good bye and then stayed outside and rode bikes. Trey made a chalk race track. Then Liz, Alley, Jenna, Shelby, Trey, and Lizi went to see the movie Frozen. When they got home, the kids rode bikes for another 30 minutes, They came inside when it started getting cold and Lizi had a bath and Trey and Shelby played Sorry! Then Trey and Shelby had baths while Lizi played with her polly pockets. They had dinner and did melty beads, played UNO, then had a short webchat with their mom. Liz and Jenna then played Scene it: Disney with the kids, they sent me some texts while I was at work, and then went to bed.
Quote of the day - while the kids were playing UNO: Liz: "Trey, who is winning?" Trey: "Shelby because she did that one trick called cheating."
Thursday, November 28 Thanksgiving.
I woke up to Trey and Lizi playing in their rooms. Shelby heard me and came in shortly after and everyone decided that they were hungry so we went to have some cereal. After breakfast, I put a Jake and the Neverland Pirates on so I could go get ready for the day. After the show, Trey, who has been asking me to go on a hike for a couple of days now, asked again, so we went to hike 3 falls. We only hiked to the bottom fall, but all the kids wanted to keep going. Because of the steepness, I decided against it. When we got home, we rode bikes and tossed the football around in the front yard.
Matthew came over and played with us. It was cute to see how the kids immediately jumped on their big bikes when he got here, trying to impress him. He went home and we all went into the back yard and raked the leaves into a big pile by the swing set and the kids had fun jumping off the swing into the leaves. Trey had fun making up a new game where someone would hide and try to scare another person that was about to jump into the leave pile.
After playing in the leaves, we went over to the Arscott's for Thanksgiving Dinner. CaroLee had a lot of fun crafts for the kids to do and after we ate, we went outside and played basketball. It was fun to see Lizi try and even make a lot of baskets since she is always reluctant to do anything active.
Trey really wanted to play kick ball and Jenna and Matthew wanted to play a game they made up with tennis balls and racquets so we drove over to the church field to play kick ball and the other game. It started getting dark and a little chilly so we came home and played Scene it: Disney.
After Scene it, Mathew went home and I played ward "Go Fish" with Shelby, and Trey while Lizi played with her polly pockets. We ate a quick dinner and then Shelby, Jenna, and I went shopping (black Friday, which started on Thursday this year) to get Liz a Christmas present. When we got home we gave Liz her present, Shelby played with her ponies, Lizi played polly pockets and Jenna and I shot baskets in Trey's room with Trey. Trey likes to sit on his top bunk and try to shoot the ball into the rim that is hanging on his closet door. After that we went to bed.
Quote of the day - Liz, after Trey won a lot of UNO games, "You are the UNO king!" Lizi: "I'm kind of like the UNO princess because I won one game."
Friday, November 29
I had to go to work early with it being Black Friday. at 8:00am, Liz woke up to Shelby coming in and giving her a big hug in bed. Trey and Lizi were laying in their beds awake. I asked them to sleep as long as they could in the morning since they had a late night the night before. So Liz went in and told them they could get up but they wanted to just lay there a little longer. Shelby started playing with her princesses and Trey and Lizi found the letters I left them on the kitchen table. Trey read his all by himself.
Ward Go Fish was on the table so the kids decided they wanted to play. Liz and Jenna played with them. Liz then put on a Jake and the Neverland Pirates so she could go get ready for the day. After Jake was over, they ate breakfast. Right after breakfast, Will came over to play with Trey and Gracie came over to play with Jenna and Shelby. Trey and Will played with Trey's lightsabers and played basketball in his room, while Shelby, Lizi, Jenna and Gracie all rode bikes. Soon, Trey and Will went outside to ride bikes with the girls.
Liz then packed up the kids and took them all to Cottonwood park in Colorado City. The kids ha so much fun going down the long slide. They stayed at the park for a couple of hours, then came home and had baths.
When I got home from work, we went out front to hang Christmas lights and ride bikes. Jenna and Shelby worked on the blue lights on our river rock while I hung the lights on the roof. We came in when it got dark and Trey asked if they could watch Star Wars, so we watched Episode VI The Return of the Jedi and then started our bed time routine.
Quote of the day - Lizi, while at the park eating lunch: "Oh, so nice...no pictures..."
Saturday, November 30
I woke up and got ready for the day, then went into wake the kids up at 7:30 to have them eat breakfast with me. After eating and getting dressed, we were on our way to the airport at 8:30. I rode in the back while Liz drove and Jenna, I, and the kids played UNO and Go Fish. We met their mom at the airport and spent about 30 minutes saying our goodbyes. Trey and Lizi asked to stay longer by reasoning that they should spend the same amount of time with me as they do with their mom, and Shelby always wants to stay longer as well.
I watched them through security and waved good bye to them as they went out of sight.
