Utah Visit Summer 2012

June 5, 2012 - Day 1
Picked up the kids in Texas at 12:30 and arrived back in St George at 6:15pm. We were met in the airport by Liz and all the girls with balloons and a welcome home sign.

Upon arriving at the house they immediately ran to their rooms to check out their new bunk beds and the "surprises" on their bed. Shelby stayed on her bed playing with her new toys while Lizi and Trey ran out side to play in the sand box.

Quote of the day - Shelby: Jenna, you have long hair, like Repunzel."

June 6, 2012 - Day 2
Started the day with Mickey Mouse pancakes, then we went to play out side in the sand box. Trey asked if we could go on "our hike" down to the river. We also hit golf balls in the back yard and climbed on the swing set. We then put training wheels on the bikes and got them up an running. Trey asked if we could go on our hike. We played foosball and with other inside toys. Buggy came over to play. Trey asked to go on our hike. We went on a short hike (not "our hike"). Went to the fish store to pick out some fish for the aquarium. Ate dinner, and went swimming at the Arscotts.

Quote of the day - Trey: "I really like Utah cuz there are lots and lots of mountains and I can hike every single one of them."

June 7, 2012 - Day 3
Went outside and did some yard work in the morning while the kids played outside on the swings, on their bikes and in the sand box. We came in and Trey and I putted on the little putting green while Shelby and Lizi played with the doll house. After some cereal, we played foosball and got ready for the hike up the canyon. We packed a lunch and ate on our hike. We came home and rode bikes with Buggy. Came in for a short movie for quiet time. We went back outside and worked with Trey on riding his bike without training wheels, like I had done with Shelby the day before. We rode our bikes and took the stroller to see Small One - a donkey that resembles the one in the Disney Christmas story - that lives up the street. He came right over to the fence to see us. We rode back home and played with the doll house for a bit before we went back out side to play on the Slip n Slide and then play baseball.

Quote of the day - Trey: "Dad, you're the luckiest guy cuz you have the most kids."

June 8, 2012 - Day 4
We spent most of the day around the house today. I could tell the kids were a little worn out from all the running around we had been doing the past couple of days. So we spent the morning playing inside with the cars, dolls, watching movies and putting, and out side in the sand box, on the swings, and hitting golf balls. Shelby and I also picked a few raspberries. The one time we left the house, we went to Stout Park, where the kids always ask to go. We went there around 11:30.

Quote of the day - Lizi: "That hurt like the dickens."

June 9, 2012 - Day 5
We woke up, got ready and went to Alley's swim meet. Then we went to Costco and came home. We fixed lunch and played on the swings outside. Then we came in for quiet time and watched a movie. After the movie, we went back out side to play for a while on the swings, and to pick berries and veggies from the garden. We then came back inside and Trey and I looked at his baseball cards while Shelby and Lizi were playing with their doll house. I cooked dinner, played some more with them, got Trey and Lizi ready for a bath and took Shelby to Walmart. We came back, got Shelby in the bath tub, noticed that Liz and Trey were playing baseball outside, so we all went out for a little while and played.

Quote of the day - Trey: "I love you, my blankies, and God the most."

June 10, 2012 - Day 6
We woke up and went to church. After Church we had spaghetti and Lizi, Trey, Jenna and I played baseball outside while Shelby played with her princesses inside. Then we all played outside on the swings and on their bikes. They came in and had a webchat with Keri. After the webchat we played inside for a while, wrestling around and giving piggy back rides, which we call "Galapogos Turtle" rides which is what they called them when they were younger. Trey, Jenna and I went outside to hit golf balls while Lizi and Shelby watched a church movie and played inside with the doll house. After golf, Shelby and Lizi came outside and we all picked weeds in the garden. We came in to watch a church movie all together and then had dinner. After dinner Trey, Shelby, Liz, Jenna and I went out side to help Trey practice riding his bike without training wheels and he did it! I can't wait to see if he can still do it tomorrow! We came inside to start getting ready for bed. I read some books with Trey while Lizi and Holli played with the doll house and Shelby, Alley and Jenna went to check on a neighbor's cat.

Quote of the Day - Trey: "Daddy, you have a lot of veins. Where did you get all of these veins?"

June 11, 2012 - Day 7
We got up and got ready for the day and played a little checkers and put some puzzles together. Shelby loves to play with the piano and dance in front of the TV where she can see her reflection. We went to Zion National Park and hiked Weeping Rock. Then Trey really wanted to drive through the long tunnel so we went that way and did it. We stopped by for a snow cone on the way home. Once we got home, we got changed and headed over to the Arscotts for swimming. We came home, rode bikes - Trey rode all by himself with no training wheels! Shelby tried to ride her bike without training wheels for a little while. Then we put some roller skates on Shelby and Trey for a few minutes too. We then had dinner and got ready for bed.

Quote of the day - Shelby: "I thought I was in Texas for a second cuz I've been there so long. But I'm glad I'm in Utah. I like Utah the best cuz it has you in it."

June 12, 2012 - Day 8
I had to work today so I was gone before the kids were up. But when Liz went into Trey & Lizi's room at 6:30am, all three were already awake and playing contently with their toys. Lizi & Shelby were in Trey's crib playing with the tee set, while Trey was playing with the leap frog games. They ate breakfast and went to pick up alley from swim. They went through a car wash and loved it. They came home and watched a movie as Liz got ready for the day. Lizi then played with the doll house with Holli and Shelby rode her bike while Trey played in the sand box. Trey played baseball with Jenna and Liz out side as well. Shelby got the princess checkers set out to play as well. The kids also played house with Trey being the dad "at work" in his bunk bed while Shelby, "the mom," was feeding Lizi, "the baby," in the crib. Then they had mac & cheese for lunch. The kids brought out some puzzles and Trey and Jenna played foosball. Then they all came to see me at work when I got off and then we all went to the fish store to pick out some more fish. We got home and rode bikes (Trey practiced turning today). Then we went swimming at the Arscotts, played outside, and read books and went to bed.

Quote of the day - Shelby: "Good night, Daddy. I love you forever."

June 13, 2012 - Day 9
I got up as Trey ran in and excited was telling me to come look at something in his room. So I did, and he had his football cards spread out all over his floor and was looking at all of them. After looking at his football and then baseball cards, we went outside to ride bikes. Then we came in to eat breakfast and I put a movie on for them while I took a shower. After I got ready, we went to the Library to look for "The Crocodile Hunter" movie, which they had been talking about for a long time. We came home and Millie and Avery came over. We played in the living room with the doll house and with the Piano and wrestled around on the floor. We put in a Dora movie, and when it was over we did a little easter egg/treasure hunt in the sand box where we took turns burring eggs in the sand and then looked for them. We went back out to the street and rode bikes, then Trey and Lizi wanted me to push them on the swings while Shelby played inside at the doll house. We went back inside, watched Jake and the Neverland Pirates and had dinner.  We went over to the Arscotts to swim, where Shelby swam the whole time (about an hour) without floaties. She swam like she had been swimming without floaties for a while! We got home, read books and scriptures and went to bed.

Quote of the day - Trey to Shelby after she ran through the sand box: "Shelby, if I have to tell you one more time to stop doing that, we're going to have to set some rules with my sand toys."

June 14, 2012 - Day 10
I woke up and went into Trey and Lizi's room to find Trey playing with his baseball and football cards, Lizi sleeping, and Shelby reading books on the top of her bunk bed across the hall. We ate breakfast and then went outside to play with the trucks. We all rode bikes for a while, then came in and I put a church movie in (as I do every morning) while I got ready for the day. After the movie, we played foosball, then Lizi, Trey, and I rode bikes again. Ginger and her son Cody (neighbors) came across the street to say hello too. Trey had his first crash since riding without his training wheels, but after a 2 minute break, he was back on his bike again. Then Liz came out and rode with Shelby and Trey while Lizi and I played with the doll house. When everyone came inside, I played checkers with Shelby. Then, for quiet time, Trey wanted to watch the old Disney Movie "Little Toot" which I have on Melody Time. Trey, Lizi and I went out to hit golfballs and then Trey and I went to get our hair cut. Lizi played with the doll house and Liz fixed Shelby's hair. Then we ate lunch and once again all went out to ride bikes. They would ride for a little and then rest in the shade. Then Trey, Lizi and I went in the back yard to swing on the swings. Then we all came inside and played with the doll house. They opened letters from Texas and Shelby and Lizi colored their pictures. Shelby said she was coloring hers for "Sister Arscott" who lets us swim at her house every day. Then we went swimming where Trey started to swim really good without his floaties - going down the slide and being able to make it to the side of the pool on his own. We came home, had dinner, baths, read books, and went to bed.

Quote of the day - Shelby: "I have a secret. Daddy and I are going to see a play and it starts with the letter 'L.'" Trey: "Buzz Light year." Shelby, whispering in Trey's ear: "No, it's Aladdin."

June 15, 2012 - Day 11
I had to work this morning but Liz went in the kids room about 7:00 and Trey had his baseball and football cards spread all over his floor as he has done the past 3 days. Lizi and Shelby played with a musical Lady and the Tramp globe. Then Trey went outside to blow bubbles while Shelby and Lizi played with the doll house. Then they ate breakfast. Trey went out and rode bikes while Shelby fed and brushed Smokey and Lizi played with her tea set in her and Trey's room. The kids then got dressed and Liz put on a church movie for them while she got ready. Shelby then played with a water balloon and it exploded on her and soaked her. Then after Shelby got changed, they rode bikes down the street, and came back and played with the big cars by the sandbox. Lizi rode her bike on the back portch while Trey played in the sand box and Liz and Shelby gave Chewy a haircut. The kids went inside to play then heard Liz spraying off the back porch and they came back out side to step in the water on the porch. They went to pick up Alley from swimming and went to the hurricane city park. Shelby and Trey did the rock wall at the park first. Then they went on the swings and played tag. Then they played baseball. Then they came home and Shelby Trey and Liz went on another bike ride while Lizi played with the doll house. Then they watched a movie and ate lunch. After lunch they went to play outside in the sand box and then came to my work to see me when I got off work. We went to a couple of stores and then came home. We watched a little of the US Open golf tournament. Trey went outside to play in the sand box while Lizi played in her room and Shelby and I kept watching the US Open. We then got our swimming suits on to swim at the Arscotts. Both Trey and Shelby swam the whole time without floaties. Then we came home and Alley pushed Trey and Lizi on the swings. Then Trey helped me with some gardening things, and we went in to eat dinner, read books, and go to bed.

Quote of the day - Trey: (as Shelby was about to dive in the pool) "One second Shelby, I'm treadmilling." (Meaning treading water).

June 16, 2012 - Day 12
I woke up and found Trey and Lizi playing in their room and Shelby playing in hers. Shelby was reading and Trey and Lizi were setting up books on the floor to race cars and play with animals on. Soon Shelby came in and played with us. We then went to Alley's swim meet and came home and had breakfast. After breakfast we rode bikes. Lizi, Trey and I played foosball and Shelby played on the piano. We went outside and Trey and I played Baseball while Lizi and Shelby rode bikes. Then Lizi and I played baseball. We came inside and watched a movie for quiet time. Then I fixed lunch and got ready for work. When I left for work, Liz and Trey were riding bikes. Then they went inside and worked on Father's Day gifts. Keri called and talked with Trey. Then they painted their toenails. Shelby and Trey then went outside and played in the sandbox and on the swings. Lizi played in the crib with the tea set. Then Liz and the kids rode bikes. After bikes, Trey played foosball with Jenna and Shelby and Lizi played with their princesses. Then Trey went outside with Liz and helped clean up the back porch. Then they watched Hercules. After the movie they made more cards and then had dinner. Alley helped give the kids baths and then they read books and went to bed.

Quote of the day - Shelby: "I'm going to save (stop) Smokey (our cat) from going inside." Trey: "Smokey can go inside." Shelby: "No he can't. He peels his skin off." (sheds)

June 17, 2012 - Day 13

June 20, 2012 - Day 16

Quote of the day - Shelby: "Mrs Liz, can we get all that money (from the wishing well near the Tiki Room)? Liz: "No, it's a wishing well. People throw a coin into the water and make a wish." Shelby: After thinking for a second, "Can I have a penny to make a wish?" and she threw the penny in. Liz: "Did you make a wish?" Shelby: with a big smile, "Yep! that I could live with my Utah daddy forever."

June 22, 2012 - Day 18
I got up and went to work at 6:00am. The kids woke up about 7:30 and played with their toys in the living room for a half hour before they had breakfast. After breakfast they had a bath. Then they played with their toys some more - Shelby and Lizi with the doll house and Trey lined up his cars in the living room. Then they watched a movie. After the movie they had mac and cheese and apples with peanut butter. Then they all went to racing their cars down a race track Liz made for them. That's what they were doing when I came home from work at 3:30. We put some new fish into the fish tank and played with the cars some more. Then we went outside and rode bikes, came in to cool down a little bit and then went back out to pull weeds and plant pumpkins. We also looked at the cantaloupe that we planted before we left for Disneyland and it was sprouting. We came in and hung some pictures up then had potatoes and hamburger for dinner. After dinner Liz rode bikes with the kids then they came in and played in Trey & Lizi's room. Then we read scriptures and got ready for bed.

Quote of the day: Trey - "I love Disneyland so much I want to marry it."

June 23, 2012 - Day 19
I woke up late today and expected all the kids to be up already, but only Lizi was out of bed and she had already changed into her play clothes. We played in their room for a little bit and then went to the kitchen table to draw with their new Disneyland pens. Then we went outside to ride bikes and Shelby learned to ride her bike for the first time without training wheels. We came in and had cereal for breakfast then I put a movie on while I got ready for the day. After the movie, we went back outside and rode bikes some more at Shelby's urging because she was so excited about learning to ride her bike. We came back in and played on the floor, made pirate hats and princess crowns, played UNO, and played the piano. We put all the pins we got at Disneyland on our lanyards then we went back out side to ride bikes and pull weeds and got our swim suits on and went swimming at the Arscotts. After swimming we came back and had pizza and oranges for dinner. Then we went out side to look at the garden some more and found some baby watermelon and pulled more weeds. Shelby, Trey, Lizi, Jenna and I played baseball too. Then we came in, got washed up, and went to bed.

Quote of the day:

June 24, 2012 - Day 20
We woke up and got ready for church. After church we came home and rode bikes and had lunch. Trey and Lizi went outside and Trey pushed Lizi on the swings and then got on the other swing for a while and swung next to her. We got our my special cars that I had when I was a kid and played with them. We went back out side and rode bikes and played on the swings. After a phone call to say hello to their mom, we came back inside and played foosball. Matthew Arscott came over and we had our foosball and UNO tournaments. Then we went out side to ride bikes and while doing that, a neighbor came out and started racing his remote control car. Trey would scream with excitement as it came toward him and Shelby would chase after it. Then we came in and went to bed.

Quote of the day - Lizi: "I checked in the mirror and I'm beautiful."

June 25, 2012 - Day 21
The kids slept in late today. I walked into their rooms at about 8:30 and Trey had just started to stir in his bed. Usually he's up by 7:00 or 7:30. Trey and I went outside and played with some spin toys that fly in the air. Then we came inside to check on the sleeping kids. Shelby was up and the three of us went to check the mail on our bikes. When we got back, Lizi had changed out of her pajamas into her play clothes to "surprise" me. Shelby and Lizi played UNO while Liz made pancakes and Trey and I went outside to water the garden. After breakfast, I put in a movie for the kids and got ready for the day. Then after playing foosball and riding bikes, we went to the library to get Crocodile Hunter since the kids love that movie. We came home and had lunch, rode bikes again, and then watched their movie for quiet time. Trey and I also went outside to hit golf balls while Shelby and Jenna played UNO.  After the movie we went to the church to play kick ball and then over to the Arscotts for a swim with the Wheelers. After swimming we came home, had dinner, and went to bed.

Quote of the day - Lizi: (during the blessing on the food) "...and bless Daddy, because I love him."

June 26, 2012 - Day 22
I woke up at 4:00 to Shelby waking me up. I got her back to sleep and started getting ready for work a half hour later. The kids slept in till 8:30. They had baths and ate breakfast. Then Trey and Lizi played with Trucks in the sandbox while Shelby played with princesses in her room before going out to play in the sandbox with the others. Then they all rode bikes. Liz took them all to Lins to get some groceries. When they got back home, they watched Hercules for a few minutes before Grampa Hubert got to the house. Trey and Shelby showed him their bunkbeds. Trey wanted to show him how he could ride his bike without training wheels now so all the kids went out to show him. They came inside and had quiet time by finishing watching Hercules. Lunch was next, then they played on the floor giving horse rides to each other. Then the kids showed him their toys that they got from Disneyland. Then everyone went out side to blow bubbles and see the garden. They also played on the swings. Shelby showed how she can climb up the swing and Trey how he could stand on the swing. Shelby kept asking how much longer till I got home. When I got home Shelby was playing on the piano, Lizi was playing with her dolls and Trey, Liz, and Dad were outside. Trey came running in and he and Lizi hugged on to me. We played inside for a while with princesses and the doll house then Dad, Shelby, Trey, Lizi and I played UNO while Liz went to a Dr appointment. After UNO, Trey wanted to go outside and "teach" grampa Hubert how to hit golf balls. Shelby came out and hit a few balls too. They both hit them really good. We got our swim suits on and Jenna, Shelby, Trey, Lizi and I went over to the Arscotts to swim. We came home and ate dinner, talked and played on the floor, then read scriptures and went to bed.

Quote of the Day - Shelby: We have a lot of people on our car (referring to the sticker decals of all of us). Now we have like a billion kids. Liz: "Do you like having a lot of kids?" Shelby: "Yup! I always wanted to have an older sister and now I have 4."

We came home, read books and went to bed.

Quote of the day

June 28, 2012 - Day 24
As soon as the kids and I had gotten up and had our cereal, we got ready for our traditional river hike. Matthew Arscott, Jenna and Alley came too. We headed out about 9:10. The kids loved playing in the warm river and finding frogs, skipping rocks, looking at the desert turtles, and digging in the sand. After the hike we stopped at Snow Caps to get one of their yummy snow cones. We came home had some lunch and watched Fox and the Hound for quiet time. During the part of the movie where Todd, the fox, is put back in the forest, I noticed that Shelby's little bottom lip was quivering and that she had tears in her eyes. When I asked her if she was ok, she just engulfed me in a big Shelby hug. Tonight when I asked her why she was crying, she said it was because she never wanted to leave me in Utah. After the movie we rode bikes, checked the pumpkins and cantaloupe that we had just planted a few days earlier - as well as the rest of the garden - and played on the swings. After Liz got home, we went to the church and played Kickball and then went swimming at the Arscotts. When we got home, we had dinner and then played outside for a little bit - Trey and I played baseball while Lizi played in the sand box and Shelby checked the garden and played in the sand box too. Then it was time for books and bed.

Quote of the day - Lizi: "I love kissing you! It means 'I love you!'"

June 29, 2012 - Day 25
I had to work but the kids got up about 8:30 and played in Trey's room for about 20 minutes. They had baths and played with dolls. Then they had breakfast. After breakfast they played outside with their trucks on the porch. Then Alley went out and rode bikes with them. Trey and Alley came in and played foosball and Lizi played in her room with Jenna with her dolls. Liz and Shelby played with the doll house. Trey played with the dinosaur in the living room while Shelby and Lizi played with the doll house. Then they had some quiet time watching Mickey Mouse Club House. Then they came to pick me up from work. Shelby had some tears. When Alley talked to her and asked her why she was crying she said "I never want to go in the car because every time we leave I think we're going back to Texas and I don't want to. I want to stay in my Utah house." When they picked me up from work, we putted on the putting green there at Dick's and then went to Jumpin' Jacks (a bounce house). After we got back home, we ate dinner and went swimming at the Arscotts. After swimming we checked the garden and picked 9 cherry tomatoes and saw how big the pumpkin plants that we just planted were getting and looked at how big the watermelon was getting. Then we read books and went to bed. I went in to check on the kids after they had been asleep for a while as I do every night and to cover them up with the covers so they don't get cold and each one woke up briefly and looked at me. Shelby took my hand and cuddled up to it and Trey sat up, looked at me and smiled briefly before laying back down.

Quote of the day

June 30, 2012 - Day 26
Shelby had a nightmare so she came in to wake me up (with Jenna's help) at 2:00am. We woke up at 8:00 and Lizi was sitting on the couch with Chewy, our dog, and Trey was playing in his room. I put a movie on and got ready for the day. Then we ate cereal and went to the store to get some groceries. Trey decided that he wanted to hike down to the river again but Shelby and Lizi wanted to stay home. So Trey and I went on our hike while Shelby and Lizi played the doll house with Alley and Jenna. Shelby went out to ride her bike on the back porch, then came in and they watched Jake and the neverland Pirates with Alley, Jenna and Lindsay. After the show, they colored until Trey and I got home. Then we watched another Jake and the Neverland Pirates. After the show, we went out to look at the garden and play on the swings. Then Trey and Jenna hit golf balls. Then we came in, got our swimsuits on and played inside for a few minutes before going over to the Arscotts for Dinner and swimming. After that we came home, read books, and went to bed.

Quote of the day - Shelby: "I don't ever want to watch The Fox and the Hound again because when the fox is put back in the forest it reminds me of me leaving you."

July 1, 2012 - Day 27
Shelby came in at 7:00 to wake me up. At 7:30 we went to check on the other kids. They were just waking up. I asked them to get in their church clothes while I took a shower and to my surprise, Lizi was the one who was in her church clothes when I got out. Shelby and Trey were playing with the doll house. We got everyone changed, ate cereal, and went to church. Trey started crying when Sister Arscott mentioned that this was his last week with everyone in Utah. After church we got into our play clothes and went outside to ride bikes. Then we came in and the kids finished their Disneyland lollipops. Then lunch was ready so we ate. After lunch Lizi and Shelby played on the swings and Trey watched excitedly as Jenna and I played catch with a softball. Then the three of us played with Trey's baseball bat and balls. Alley came and hit with us. Then the kids did the webchat with Keri. After the webchat, Matthew Arscott came over and we did the UNO and Foosball Tournaments. Trey made it all the way to the finals in the UNO tournament, beating Matthew and Jenna. After the tournaments, Shelby, Jenna and I played UNO at the table while Lizi played with her doll house and Trey kept score for us. Then Shelby, Trey and I went outside to hit golf balls while Liz and Lizi played in the sand box. Then Liz took the kids on a short walk in the wagon, while Shelby rode her bike, then they came back and got me and I rode my bike and we all went to the mail box. After the walk, CaroLee and Matthew came over to talk. Shelby, Trey and I rode bikes and then went in to play UNO. Then we had some dinner and then got ready for bed and read books. As the kids were getting into bed, they saw Pete and his remote control car outside and asked if they could go watch, so we went outside and watched the car with the neighbors and painted Lizi's fingers and toe nails. Then Trey and Lizi came in and crawled into bed while Shelby and I went to the back yard to look at the garden and pet Smokey. Then we came in and went to bed.

Quote of the day - Lizi: "I just want to live with you forever."

July 2, 2012 - Day 28
Trey came in to sleep with me at about 2:00am. We slept until about 8:00 and went to check on Lizi and Shelby who were up and playing in Lizi's room. I gave them baths and then got ready for the day, myself. We ate breakfast, checked the garden, played on the swings and rode bikes. We came inside and watched Jake and the Neverland Pirates for quiet time, then had lunch. Matthew Arscott came over while we were playing foosball, and we also played UNO, and with the cars on the floor town mat. Trey and I danced to some music. I took pictures of them with their pumpkin plants that they planted and were so proud of. We all rode bikes and when I told them that we needed to get ready to go, Trey broke down. So Trey and I hit golf balls right as it was timne to leave. We left for the airport at 3:15 and waited for Keri to get in for 10 minutes. We saw her plane land and saw her get off the plane. We visited for about an hour and a half. And when it was time to go, once again, Trey was adamant that he was going to stay with me. He definately had the hardest time with leaving this time. As I watched them go, my heart broke as it always does, but I started planning for the next time I get to see them.
