Odds and Ends from my trip to Texas

While hiking back from looking at the animals in the exhibits at the Heard Natural Sience Museum and Wild Life Sanctuary, we passed a family of total strangers. As we passed them Trey exclaimed in a excited and proud voice as he pointed at me, "That's my Daddy!!!" Made my day!

I had put the kids in bed and decided to go take a hot bath. About 10 minutes into my bath, the bathroom door slowly opens. Trey got out of bed and comes into the bathroom and says, "Daddy, I'm tired of sleeping."

As I was singing Elizabeth to sleep with a whole medley of songs...Love is spoken here, Mother Tell Me the Stories, Child's Prayer, being the first 3...it appeared that they were starting to have the desired affect as she was begining to close her eyes. As I sang Annie's Song by John Denver, she cracked the BIGGEST smile as I sang "like a night in the forest" in my second time through the song. It was SO cute and a big surprise as I wasn't even sure she was asleep yet, but she was! I guess she's a John Denver fan...

September 2010 Texas with the kids

I'm out on Texas visiting my kids with my Dad. It's nice to have some one with me so I can be in some pictures with the kids for a change! :-)

The most memorable part of the trip so far would be the first night I dropped the kids back off at their grandparents house, where they are living, just as Shelby's grandfather was closing the door, she yelled, "wait! wait!" so I turned around to see the door opening again and Shelby running out to tell me bye and give me a hug! It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it!

Funny moment - The last day I was with the kids, we were eating hamburgers at the hotel. Shelby took a bite of a really hot hamburger and made a concerned sound as she opened her mouth full of hot hamburger and looked at me not knowing exactly what to do. With a slight chuckle, I asked her if she wanted me to blow on it to cool it off. Her mouth still wide open, she nodded yes. So I leaned over and started blowing on the hamburger in her mouth. After just a few seconds, I couldn't contain how funny the situation was anymore and I busted out laughing which, of course, triggered Shelby laughing histerically, still with a mouth full of hot hamburger. Once we stopped laughing, I asked her if it was cool enough. After she rotated the hamburger in her mouth a little bit, the worried look once again came back to her face and I could tell it was still too hot. So I asked her if she wanted me to blow on it again and she nodded yes again. And once again we both laughed histerically. Anyway, we repeated this process 3 or 4 times and I still chuckle just thinking about it! :-)

I got back from such a fun trip with the kids in Texas! We went swimming all 4 days, went to the Heard Nature Museum and Wild Life Sanctuary twice, the park twice, and had lots of fun at the hotel and riding bikes at their grandparents house!

They loved pretending they were flying on their bikes - as they were riding them, I would pick them up and they would ride off to Neverland (or Tinker-land in Shelby's case).

We were all so worn out by the time we got back to the hotel, we all slept really well!

Things kids say...

After watching Tarzan with the kids, Shelby turns to me and says "Daddy, I'm scared of the leopard part." Then Trey, my newly turned 3 year old, says, "Yeah, me too." So I say, "Me three!" To which Trey responds in a half confrontational/half surprised voice, "No, I'm three!"
